We explain it to you. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>An EU taxonomy report says little about true sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p>At its core, the <strong>EU Taxonomy<\/strong> is a <strong>financial instrument<\/strong>, designed to <strong>direct investment flows<\/strong> toward sustainable activities. It is not a technical seal of approval that guarantees that a building is climate neutral.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Anyone who thinks taxonomy alignment equals a sustainable building is forgetting <strong>three crucial dimensions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Technical performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>A building can be taxonomy-aligned while technically underperforming on energy use, air quality or facility sustainability.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Life cycle impact (<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/smartbuilding.io\/en\/lca-in-real-estate-soon-to-be-mandatory-are-you-already-prepared\/\"><strong>LCA<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>CO\u2082 emissions do not stop at completion. The real sustainability impact is in the full life cycle: materials, replacement scenarios, maintenance and circularity. <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Effective CO\u2082 reduction.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>Compliance does not automatically mean that a building delivers maximum impact. The difference between &#8220;compliant&#8221; and &#8220;effectively emits less CO\u2082&#8221; can be huge. <\/p>\n\n<p>The EU Taxonomy indicates how sustainable your economic activity is, and thus determines its attractiveness to a bank or investor.
